Sensex climbs 173 pts, Nifty advances to 19,728 after Nomura’s upgrade; pharma, healthcare stocks jump

After opening lower, domestic equities climbed into positive in the second half of the session, after Nomura upgraded its stance on the Indian market from ‘neutral’ to ‘overweight’. BSE benchmark Sensex climbed 173.22 points or 0.26 per cent to 66,118.69, while broader NSE Nifty 50 rose 63.55 points or 0.32 per cent to close the session at 19,728.25.
Broader markets outperformed key indices today, as Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.98 per cent, Nifty Midcap 50 jumped 0.87 per cent, Nifty Midcap 150 gained 0.75 per cent, Nifty Midsmallcap 400 climbed 0.74 per cent, and Nifty Microcap 250 gained 0.72 per cent,
Sectorally, Nifty Pharma and Healthcare indices jumped 1.19 per cent each, followed by Nifty PSU Bank gained 0.83 per cent, FMCG index gained 0.80 per cent, the realty index jumped 0.73 per cent, and Nifty IT jumped 0.38 per cent.

L&T, ITC, Sun Pharma, Coal India, Cipla, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Reliance Industries, Hindustan Unilever, IndusInd Bank, Bharti Airtel, SBI Life, Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports lifted the benchmark indices.
Titan, Grasim, HeroMotoCorp, SBI, ICICI Bank, Nestle India, BPCL, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto, Tata Consumer, Tata Steel and UPL were the top drag.
