Sensex slips 388 pts, Nifty down to 19,365; Adani Ports gains over 4%, ITC loses

Domestic equities slipped on Thursday amid renewed fears of inflation and the Chinese economic slowdown. BSE benchmark Senex slipped 388.40 points, or 0.59 per cent to close at 65,151.02, while broader NSE Nifty50 tanked around 100 points, or 0.51 per cent to end the session at 19,365.25.
Sectorally, FMCG stocks were the biggest losers, as the sectoral index slipped 0.89 per cent, led by losses in ITC, which slipped over 2 per cent today. Nifty Oil & Gas fell 0.83 per cent, led by Reliance, which closed 1.60 per cent down today. Nifty IT slipped 0.49 per cent, Nifty Media fell 0.40 per cent, and Nifty Pharma ended 0.26 per cent lower.
Broader market indices were largely mixed, as Nifty Midcap 50 gained 0.32 per cent, Nifty Midcap 150 climbed 0.30 per cent, Nifty Midcap 100 rose 0.25 per cent, and India Vix jumped around 1 per cent. On the other hand, Nifty 100 slipped 0.48 per cent, Nifty 200 tanked 0.38 per cent, and Nifty 500 fell 0.30 per cent.

Adani Ports was the top gainer in today’s session in the Nifty50 index, as it jumped 4.43 per cent to settle at Rs 810 on NSE. Adani Enterprises jumped 1.33 per cent while Adani Power gained over 2 per cent after investment firm GQG Partners bought over 8 per cent, or 31 crore shares, of Adani Power from the promoters for over $1 billion through two block deals on the stock exchanges.
Adani Ports, Titan, Adani Enterprises, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Dr Reddy, Tata Consumer, Bajaj Finserv, Axis Bank, HDFC Life, Britannia, Hindalco, Cipla, Tech Mahindra, and Bharti Airtel were net gainers in today’s session.
On the other hand, the stocks which lost the most were ITC, LTI Mindtree, PowerGrid, Reliance Industries, L&T, Nestle India, Divis Lab, Apollo Hospital, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Eicher Motors.
