The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has conditionally extended the air operator certificate (AOC) of Jet Airways till September 3 “only for the limited purpose of completing the ongoing CIRP (corporate insolvency resolution process)” of the airline, the aviation regulator said on Monday. Earlier in the day, the Jalan-Kalrock Consortium (JKC), the successful bidder for the bankrupt airline had announced that the AOC had been renewed by the DGCA, claiming the decision reflected the regulator’s confidence in the airline’s revival. An AOC is a prerequisite for an airline to operate commercial flights.
The DGCA, however, said that the decision to extend the AOC’s validity was essentially in accordance with the extension granted by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) till September 3 for the implementation of the approved resolution plan for the carrier, which was once India’s top airline. Jet Airways has not taken to the skies since April 2019 following severe financial stress.
