RBI Governor on higher risk weights: ‘We don’t wait for house to catch fire to act’

Reserve Bank of India Governor Shaktikanta Das Friday said the move to increase risk weights on unsecured personal loans is aimed at preserving the resilience of the financial sector and addressing potential risks.
“We do not wait for the house to catch fire and then act. Prudence at all times should be the guiding philosophy, both for the regulators and the regulated entities,” Das told reporters after announcing the monetary policy.
