Sensex slips 242 pts, Nifty down to 20,133 ahead of US Fed meet; PSU Bank index gains over 3%

Domestic equities snapped their record-breaking winning run on Monday and ended in negative ahead of US Fed Reserve meeting. BSE benchmark Sensex broke its 11-day winning streak and closed 241.79 points, or 0.36 per cent lower at 67,596.84, dragged by HDFC Bank, Reliance, and Infosys. Meanwhile broader NSE Nifty50 fell 59.05 points, or 0.29 per cent to 20,133.30.
PowerGrid, Titan, HDFC Life, M&M, BPCL, NTPC, Britannia, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Finserv, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, ITC, Nestle India, SBI, Cipla, and Hindustan Unilever were the top gainers in today’s trade.
However, stocks that dragged the key indices were Hindalco, HDFC Bank, Adani Ports, Dr Reddy, Bharti Airtel, Adani Enterprises, Infosys, UltraTech Cement, Wipro, Tata Stel, Divis Lab, and UPL.

All broader market indices slipped into negative, as Nifty Smallcap 100 fell 0.54 per cent followed by Nifty Smallcap 250 at 0.49 per cent, Nifty Midcap 100 at 0.42 per cent, Nifty Midcap Select at 0.37 per cent, Nifty Midcap 50 at 0.35 per cent, and Nifty Total Market at 0.30 per cent.
Sectorally, the Nifty Realty index fell 1.37 per cent, followed by Nifty Media at 1.27 per cent, Nifty Metal at 1.11 per cent, Nifty Private Bank at 0.83 per cent, and Nifty IT at 0.68 per cent. Meanwhile, Nifty PSU Bank soared 3.39 per cent, Nifty Auto rose 0.84 per cent, Nifty Consumer Durables jumped 0.61 per cent, and Nifty FMCG gained 0.58 per cent.
