Sensex slumps 570 pts, Nifty down to 19,742; bank, auto stocks slip

Domestic equities plunged for the third session straight on Thursday after the US Federal Reserve decided to keep the policy rate unchanged but stuck with forecasts for one more rate hike this year. BSE benchmark Sensex fell 570.60 points, or 0.85 per cent to 66,230.24, while NSE Nifty 50 closed 159.05 points, or 0.80 per cent lower at 19,742.35.
Private bank stocks were the top losers in today’s session, as the index fell 1.53 per cent, ICICI Bank slipped around 3 per cent, and HDFC Bank fell around 0.60 per cent.
All broader market indices closed in red, as Nifty Smallcap 50 fell 1.38 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 250 slipped 1.11 per cent, Nifty Smallcap 100 tanked 1.34 per cent, Nifty Midsmallcap 400 fell 0.95 per cent, and Nifty Microcap 250 fell 0.93 per cent.

Sectorally, Nifty PSU Bank fell 2.28 per cent, the auto index slipped 1.69 per cent, Nifty Bank slipped 1.68 per cent, private bank fell 1.53 per cent, and Nifty Financial Services closed 1.53 per cent lower.
M&M, ICICI Bank, Cipla, SBI, IndusInd Bank, UltraTech Cement, Hero MotoCorp, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Bajaj Auto, Grasim, and Bajaj Finserv were the top losers today.
Meanwhile, Adani Ports, Tech Mahindra, Dr Reddys, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, BPCL, Infosys, Britannia, Hindustan Unilever, UPL, Adani Enterprises, and L&T were the top gainers today.
